Witness Support Service

The Swedish Crime Victim Authority has the overall responsibility for the witness support service (vittnesstöd) in Sweden.

There is a witness support service established at all District Courts and Courts of Appeal in the country.

The task of a witness support person is to help witnesses and injured parties, and to offer support and security before and after the court hearing. You will recognise the witness support person from the identity tag he or she is wearing. All active support persons have gone through witness support training, focusing on how to treat crime victims and the legal process. They have also been instructed never to discuss the contents of the case at hand.

For more information about the witness support service in a particular area, you may contact the court in question or the Swedish Crime Victim Authority.
